Community Re-Entry

Catholic Charities’ Community Re-Entry housing program provides safe, affordable housing to individuals in Northern Arizona who have had recent justice involvement. Upon release from jail or prison, many individuals do not have a stable and supportive place to land and make a fresh start. This program empowers eligible individuals to focus on their recovery, and other goals such as family reunification, while becoming self-sufficient without the threat of homelessness.

Catholic Charities’ Community Re-Entry homes are located in Northern Arizona. Each home is in a residential area near public transportation and local services. 

Re-Entry Program Eligibility and Success

The Community Re-Entry housing program is designed for individuals exiting a justice setting without a safe and stable place to go or individuals who have had recent justice involvement and are facing housing insecurity. All referrals come through our community-coordinated entry systems. Intakes are available through referrals from partners such as Pathways to Community in Coconino County and the Connection Center in Yavapai County, as well as at any of our local offices.

Once housed, residents must maintain any justice-related requirements and pay rent. Catholic Charities does not impose any additional requirements. Most residents find employment within the first 30 days of being housed. There is flexibility for new residents' first rent payment since paydays may not be regular when beginning a new job. The average length of stay is nine months; however, residents can stay as long as they are following the rules of the housing agreement and paying rent. Residents may exit the program when they are financially ready to move into stable housing.

Supporting the Re-Entry Program

Residents of Catholic Charities’ re-entry homes are in need of household items such as new sheet sets for twin beds, towels, kitchen utensils and equipment; toiletries such as shampoo, conditioner, deodorant; paper products such as toilet paper, paper towels, tissues; and cleaning products such as dish soap, laundry soap, and all-purpose cleaner. Community Re-Entry Prevents Homelessness and Strengthens Families

Since the program launched in 2016, Catholic Charities has served nearly 140 individuals. Robin, one of Catholic Charities' first re-entry clients, had been in and out of jail most of her early adult years. She was lost in the throes of addiction and had her children removed from her care. After what would be her final stay in jail, she was introduced to Juniper House in Flagstaff.

Having a safe place to live and access to support and accountability made all the difference for Robin. She is now a lead probation officer in Coconino County, overseeing the same recovery program in which she was once enrolled.

“My life today feels like a dream compared to eight years ago,” shares Robin, “I woke up in a home that I own, reunited with my daughter who now lives with me. I have a career that’s really rewarding, working to help people who are struggling like I was years ago. Juniper House really did give me a life I like living.
