There are more than 13,000 foster children in the state of Arizona in need of a foster home. At Catholic Charities Community Services, we believe that every child deserves a safe, nurturing environment. We strive to create the right fit for families and children with foster placement. But it doesn’t end there. We support our foster families throughout and after licensure and provide all the education and support you need to take on this important role.

Some children need a home for a day, others a week, still others may need care for a year or more. No matter how short or long they are in your home, they will stay in your heart forever.

We will train you and help you get licensed provide temporary foster care until children can be reunited with their parents; respite foster care as a short-term substitute for foster care parents during vacations or emergencies; or provide further training for those interested in providing therapeutic foster care or care for medically fragile children. We also facilitate the adoption of foster children when the state terminates parental rights.

If you’re at least 21 years of age, in good health with sufficient family income, we will help you complete your background check, gather references, and complete your training and documentation to open your heart and your home to children in need.

Financial Assistance Is Included

Foster parents receive a monthly stipend from DCS to assist in the care of a foster child; our team members can provide additional information about the stipend amounts, which vary based on each situation. Medical, dental and daycare costs for the children are covered by the state of Arizona.

What Does it Mean to be in Foster Care?

Foster children range in age from newborn to 18 and are from diverse ethnicities and family backgrounds. These children are currently in the custody of DCS but long to be in a stable home with a family who cares for them. Children come into foster care through no fault of their own. They come into care because their parents are not able to safely care for them, not because of something they have done; foster care is meant to be temporary and reunification of the family is always the goal. Our foster care staff members help assess talents, skills and the desires of each family to ensure a successful match until the family can be reunified.

When a family expresses interest in becoming a “forever family” for a child that is available for adoption through the DCS, Catholic Charities assists by certifying adoptive homes, matching children to families, and providing post-placement support.
