CATHOLIC CHARITIES COMMUNITY SERVICES ELECTS 4 NEW BOARD MEMBERS FROM FLAGSTAFF AND PHOENIX

PHOENIX, Ariz. (Aug. 3, 2018): Four new board members have been elected to the Catholic Charities Community Services Board of Directors.

The new board members are:

  • David L. Hirsch, President and CEO Emeritus of Goodwill of Northern Arizona, Flagstaff
  • Steven Spravzoff of Flagstaff, a consultant with ProgressivEdge
  • Nicol Russell of Phoenix, Deputy Associate Superintendent for Early Childhood Education, Arizona Department of Education and Head Start Collaboration Director
  • Terry Araman, Veterans Services Campaign Champion, Catholic Charities.

“These four individuals bring significant business experience and strong personal commitments to our mission to help vulnerable men, women, children and families throughout Arizona,” said Catholic Charities Board Chair Dr. Honora Norton.

Hirsch has been with Goodwill Industries in Florida and Arizona for more than 16 years. Since being named President and CEO of Goodwill Industries of Northern Arizona, the organization has grown from $1.6 million to nearly $10 million with 15 locations and over 250 team members. He holds an undergraduate degree in family and child development from Kansas State University and a Master’s Degree in rehabilitation counseling from the University of South Florida. He and his wife, Patty, a special education teacher, have three children.

Spravzoff’s experience includes more than 30 years in leadership positions. He is currently serving the detention ministry at the Coconino County Jail, among other volunteer activities in the community. Spravzoff is a certified lean Six Sigma black belt. In his current consulting role, he supports many different organizations in their ongoing

quests to achieve business excellence. He and his wife, along with their daughter and son-in-law are completing the process to provide short-term foster care.

Russell is the Deputy Associate Superintendent for Early Childhood Education for the Arizona Department of Education and the Head Start State Collaboration Director. She previously served as the Director of Early Childhood Special Education and as an Education Program Specialist. She holds two Master of Education degrees, in Educational Leadership and Special Education, and two Bachelor’s degrees, in English and Early Childhood Education. She has taken courses through the Harvard Graduate School of Education and is currently enrolled in a doctoral program.

Before joining Catholic Charities, Araman was director of the Madison Street Veterans Association after holding various positions with the Lodestar Day Resource Center. His community work includes associations with Unified Arizona Veterans, Vietnam Veterans of America and as Chair of Congressman Ruben Gallego’s Veteran Action Council. Araman served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1970 and was an infantry medic with the 9th Infantry Division in Vietnam. In 2011, he was among 10 Champions of Change recognized as part of President Barack Obama’s Winning the Future initiative.
