Milestones Throughout 85 Years of Service
1933: The Most Rev. Bishop Daniel Gerke inaugurates Catholic Social Services of Arizona, serving Tucson and Phoenix.
1952: William Shiels becomes executive director of Catholic Social Services in Phoenix
1958: Groundbreaking for new service center at Most Holy Trinity on 7th St. in Phoenix
1963: Casa Linda Lodge is dedicated as a home for unwed mothers on Northern Ave. in Phoenix
1965: The Tri-City Catholic Social Service was formed to unite Mesa, Tempe and Chandler.
1967: Catholic Social Services becomes one of the first delegate agencies for Head Start in Phoenix
1968: The Emergency Food and Medical Services Program begins to combat hunger
1969: Diocese of Phoenix is established and soon after a separate Board of Directors was designated for the new branch of the social services agency.
1972: Flagstaff becomes the first additional social services site for the Diocese of Phoenix
1975: Catholic Social Service of Yavapai is established in Prescott.
1977: Catholic Social Services becomes Catholic Family and Community Services
1985: My Sister’s Place is created as a safe place for women and children fleeing domestic violence
1994: Catholic Family and Community Services becomes Catholic Social Services of Central and Northern Ariz.
1995: Dignity Diversion begins helping women escape prostitution.
1997: TAPP is founded in Yavapai County to help aid in teenage pregnancy prevention, which later becomes Northstar Youth Partnership
2006: Catholic Social Services of Central and Northern Arizona becomes Catholic Charities Community Services Inc.
2015: MANA House (Marines, Army, Navy, Air Force) joins the Catholic Charities family, expanding services to veterans.
2017: Groundbreaking for Rosewood Court, an affordable housing complex in central Phoenix near the Light Rail.
2018: Development of a new Bullhead City Homeless Shelter and Day Center begins as the first homeless shelter to serve families together in Mohave County.
