Catholic Charities is grateful for local support that helps us walk along side individuals and families in crisis and give hope. Individual donors, community partners, corporate partners, Catholic parishes and schools, and volunteers all help advance our mission to help our community’s most vulnerable.

Keshia Corpuz: Capturing Stories on Film

“The heart of a volunteer is not measured in size, but by the depth of the commitment to make a different in the lives of others.” –DeAnn Hollis, author

Keshia Corpuz captures this description … as she is a person with a heart for making a difference.

Volunteers Make a Difference

After studying journalism at Arizona State University in Tempe, Ariz., she decided to use her videography skills to capture the stories of vulnerable people in her community. Partnering with Catholic Charities, Keshia volunteered to create videos over a six month volunteer commitment.

She did educational videos for Westside Head Start and a series for adoption and becoming a foster care parent.

“I wanted to use my skills from journalism school,” said Keshia, “so I volunteered at Catholic Charities.  I love listening to people’s stories and showing those stories through video.”

Keshia’s most recent work includes a video series on survivors of sex trafficking through Catholic Charities Diversion program. The program helps women heal and rebuild their lives after experiencing the horrors of sex trafficking.

Volunteers are Appreciated at Catholic Charities

Unlike other places Keshia has worked, she felt appreciated at Catholic Charities. “I feel like the work is rewarding and I felt like I accomplished goals when I do the jobs,” Keshia says. “I have volunteered at other places where I’ve never felt appreciated or no one says, ‘Thank you.’ Catholic Charities really made me feel appreciated and like I accomplished useful work.”

In addition to creating the videos, she also enjoyed knowing her videos would help kids find homes and help parents consider doing foster care.  In creating the videos, she was given direction but creative freedom to finish her work.

Now after serving for six months, Keshia has joined the U.S. Air Force. She’s taking her passion for telling stories into serving her country and traveling the world. As she was born in Manila, Philippines but also lived in Germany before moving to the United States with her family, she’s used to different cultures and experiences.

We truly thank Keshia for her time and work—and look forward to the difference her videos will make in helping people understand the importance of helping the vulnerable in our communities.
