Free Tax Preparation
As part of its
EmpowerU
continuum, Catholic Charities provides free
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)
to those with low-moderate incomes. Our trained, IRS-certified volunteers help participants receive their maximum tax return and help them learn if they qualify for special credits, such as
Earned Income Tax Credit
, Child Tax Credit, and Credit for the Elderly or the Disabled.
In addition to free tax return preparation, Paths of HOPE VITA sites also offer free
electronic filing.
Individuals taking advantage of the e-file program will receive their refunds in half the time compared to returns filed on paper – even faster when tax refunds are deposited directly into the client’s bank account.
Free tax preparation begins in early February and continues through April 15.
