Cottonwood, Ariz. (Oct. 15, 2012) — For its third year, Catholic Charities Community Services is asking the community to Spread the Warmth this winter, but this year, the agency will receive help from APS. Patty Greer, customer supervisor at APS, is spearheading the company’s efforts: donating collection boxes and coordinating an employee drive and a public collection point at the APS offices on Hwy 89a.
I live, work and love my Verde Valley and I believe that we can make a difference when we combine our efforts,” said Greer of her involvement. “Everyone, at one point in their lives, needs a little help. We need to pass our blessings on to others who have not been as fortunate.”
Spread the Warmth is Catholic Charities’ campaign to collect new and gently used coats, sleeping bags and winter wear for homeless individuals and families. The items are distributed through Catholic Charities’ day center, The Loft, and through its homeless outreach programs.
“APS has donated the collections boxes for the past two years, and we are grateful to Patty and to APS for hosting a drive and becoming a collection site for this year’s Spread the Warmth drive,” said Carol Quasula, site director for Catholic Charities. “These items will help make the winter months a little easier for our homeless neighbors.”
Through its PATH (Projects for Assistance in Transition from Homelessness) program, Catholic Charities seeks out homeless individuals and families in Cottonwood and surrounding communities, including Sedona, to distribute these life-sustaining items and to make referrals to mental health and other needed services.
Catholic Charities also provides services to homeless individuals and families through The Loft day drop-in center located above its Cottonwood offices. There, homeless clients can make a hot meal, shower, do laundry, use a computer to apply for work or simply enjoy some social interaction.
In addition to coats, sleeping bags and winter wear; hiking boots, tents and backpacks are needed.
Spread the Warmth donations may be dropped off through Dec. 20 at APS, 1250 E. Hwy. 89A, 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.; Simply Amazing Consignment, 47 S. Main St., Mon.-Sat., 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; or at Catholic Charities Community Services, 736 N. Main St., Mon.-Fri., 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
