Girls & Sports Day this Saturday
Event presented by North Star Youth Partnership and Prescott YMCA to empower girls to live healthier lives
Prescott, Ariz. (Sept. 10, 2012) – This Saturday, girls ages 7 to 16 are invited to attend the Girls & Sports Day at the Prescott YMCA. The event empowers girls to live healthier lives by introducing them to a variety of sports and to make healthy, positive choices.
“We founded this event based on all the research that shows that girls who play sports have greater self-esteem, better body image and do better in school,” said Diane DeLong, senior program manager of Catholic Charities’ North Star Youth Partnership. “We want to encourage girls to participate in sports and make healthier choices by learning some sports basics, working as a team and developing confidence in themselves and their abilities.”
Girls & Sports Day offers a variety of activities designed for girls of every level, including gymnastics, karate, tennis, basketball and a special Teen Challenge for girls 12-16. In addition, girls learn the importance of fitness, teamwork, goal-setting, the pursuit of excellence in performance and other achievement-oriented behaviors.
This year marks the 11th anniversary of Girls & Sports Day. The event is a partnership of the North Star Youth Partnership, a program of Catholic Charities Community Services, and the Prescott YMCA. The event sponsored in part by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona and Bug & Weed Mart.
Cost is $15 and includes lunch provided by Papa John’s Pizza.
Preregistration is available online at northstaryouth.org or prescottymca.org. Pre-registered girls check-in 8-8:30 a.m. Saturday morning. Day-of registration is 8:30-8:45 a.m. as space is available up to 250 girls. Space is limited so it’s best to preregister.
